The Funerary Basilica of Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines

In addition to its collection, the Musée Saint-Raymond manages three archeological sites and a historical monument. Another way of bringing history and art history together.

The Funerary Basilica of Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines
Beginning in the fourth century, Christianity changes funerary rites ; churches are placed in the center of cemeteries. This is the purpose of the former church Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines, the only church from this period entirely unearthed in an archeological dig.
The vestiges of its original state are kept in an archeological crypt. Today, the monument, transformed in an auditorium, retains all of the signs of its prestigious past.
The guided visit permits one to comprehend all of this exceptional monument’s complexity and importance.
